Special Delivery Makes an Impact

Layla was born recently with Down Syndrome and had to be hospitalized for intestinal problems. Her parents are un-churched and have been grieving the loss of their hopes for their child (they did not know Layla would be born with Down's). When Debra Petermann of our Joni and Friends/Ohio team found out about this little family, she put together a very unusual Special Delivery basket – resources, books, a pretty pink ballerina tutu, tiara and slippers. Debra said, "I can picture little Layla dancing into the hearts of her parents; I'm convinced she's going to bring this couple so much joy in the months to come." How was this gift basket received? The mother absolutely loved it – she even cried! Best of all, the family are considering coming to church once Layla is out of the hospital. This gift and the connection was part of an effort by so many family and friends including all the people at Childrens Hospital, moms and dads, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and many dear friends, to welcome Layla to this world. Mom and dad and Layla are doing fine. Layla is our grandchild and has already enriched our family tremendously We again say thank-you and we covet your prayers and support as we continue this journey. tom and anne messerall

This is so awesome!! When you are given these special gifts sometimes it takes a while to realize this. I am so glad to be a part of an organization that helps parents. I would have loved to have known then what I do now. Rusty Joe has been the biggest blessing to our family. He teaches this mother of 4 something everyday that I wished I had known when I raised the first 3.

Joni and Friends you are saints! What a blessing you are to this world. It is so wonderful how compassionate and understanding you are to families around the world. When I went on a tour to Joni and Friends main office I was shown the same kindness. I was given several books to help me through my journey with my son. Thank you for your blessings!
