Sib's Sign

Sib's SignDuring a recent, busy trip back east, Ken and I were scurrying from one ministry event to the next, juggling flights, hotels, and crowded freeways. Our schedule was rigorous and, I will admit, exhausting. On one leg of our journey, we flew into BWI from Nashville, and then made the long drive up Interstate 81 to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As we unloaded at the home of Sib Charles, a dear friend and staff member at one of our Joni and Friends Pennsylvania offices, I felt a soothing breeze – the sun was just setting over the farms and cornfields beyond her front door. After slowly inspecting the flowers in the backyard, I wheeled into Sib and Jess's kitchen. The first thing I spotted was this sign; actually, the first thing I saw were the words "Breathe More." And I did just that. I breathed in the autumn aromas of fall flowers, friendship, and good Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. It was my way of inhaling the spirit of Galatians 5:25 for, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” No matter how busy your October becomes, remember to keep in step with the Holy Spirit and…"Breathe More."

Joni, as you know, God has blessed and continues to use your life to not only set an example for others to find inner strength and stability through life's difficulties but also as a spiritual guide to those who would otherwise remain lost sheep had it not been for your touching their lives. Your diversified talents through art, music, writing and public communication have already grown into a legacy all your own as your talents continue to be touched and inspired by the Hand of God. I sincerely applaud you for being Who you are, Whose you are, and What you will always be as a Child of God! Your Sister in Christ, Mary Vick Domin

Thank you so much for this - it came at the right time. October is a scary month with lots of changes and uncertainties and many things happening at once for my husband and me. I struggle with anxiety and tend to hold my breath for moments when I'm tense, so when I was picking up medication today, the friendly chemist noticed, and repeatedly told me "Breathe!"
