Working For Your Good

A river running through a valley with a road going up the mountain next to it.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28

You’d agree that Romans 8:28 is filled with encouragement. When you receive that bad medical report or are hit hard with disappointment, it’s reassuring to know that God’s working it all together for your good. But it doesn’t make the sad situation easier. It goes against our grain; it’s hard to embrace the fact that you will gain by losing, grow spiritually healthy in your sickness, become richer in your poverty, stronger in your weakness, and live by dying.

But Spurgeon said, “It is better that all things should work for my good than all things should be as I would wish them to be. If all things do not always please me, [I know] they will always benefit me.” Romans 8:28 is your firm anchor through painful things, but remember, God pledges to do a beautiful work. Could you ask him for a better promise?
