Why Are We Suffering

If God is so good, why doesn’t he get rid of suffering? Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and it’s a question I’m often asked. As we look at the headlines, we see that suffering is just a part of a broken world, scarred by sin. It’s a result of man’s original sin against God. So, if God were to get rid of suffering, he would have to get rid of sinners. Yikes, but wait! God does not want to destroy sinners; he wants to save them.

Second Peter 3 says, “The Lord is … patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” When Christ died on the cross, God opened a way for sinners to be rescued. And here’s the thing: he’s delaying getting rid of sin so that more people can come to Jesus. So, join me in believing that your coworker’s eternal state is worth the suffering we face in the world. Be a part of their salvation by sharing the gospel today.
