What is Rest

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.  A lot of people think I’m always on-the-go in my wheelchair. And they’re right. Because I have experienced being bedridden, I’m grateful when I’m moving. Still, even when I’m on the go, I love to rest. God says in Exodus 33, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” I love that.

When I am moving forward into life, God’s presence goes with me. I once read an essay that says rest means to, “Step out of self-life, and into Christ-life; to rest in God’s presence is to lay your busy plans and ambitions confidently in his hands and to cease to live for self.” Oh, friend, this is the kind of rest I’m talking about – it helped me years ago when I decided to be done with striving and restlessness. Once I embraced God in my wheelchair, I discovered real rest. So today, embrace God and know that he is the satisfying rest for your journey.
