NoryToday we are interviewing our friend Nory, who is a Website Coordinator at Joni and Friends. Read on to learn more about Nory and how his job helps others.

Hi, Nory. The picture you shared with us shows you in a uniform. What can you tell us about that?

When I was a kid, I was a Boy Scout and my favorite thing to do was go camping. One of my favorite places to go was Yosemite National Forest because it’s so peaceful and beautiful. I love the wilderness!

As a kid did you have any friends who had disabilities?

When I was in middle school, I was a teacher’s assistant for a special education classroom. Most of the kids in the class had Down syndrome and they became my closest friends in eighth grade.

What is something you wish you had known as a kid?

Communication is so important when you have a friend with a disability. I wish I would have learned sign language when I was a kid so that I could communicate with my friends who couldn’t hear.

Can you tell us what you do at Joni and Friends?

I keep the Joni and Friends website updated by posting new videos, pictures, blogs and activities like the ones on Kids’ Corner! I use a coding language called HTML that tells the computer how a website should look.

We are so glad you do! We love all you do to help Kids’ Corner be a fun place for kids. When you were a kid, did you know what you wanted to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a policeman. I saw policemen as heroes and I wanted to serve and protect people.

Even though you aren’t a policeman, you certainly do serve others. And you’ve even been a hero when we’ve needed help on Kids’ Corner! Can you think of something a kid could do now if they wanted to have a job like yours?

Building a website is a lot like learning to play an instrument or learning to speak a new language. Practice makes perfect! If you want to learn how to build websites, ask your parents to help you find a way for you to learn HTML. You can even find kid-friendly tutorials online.

Thanks, Nory!
