An Unexpected Blessing

Carnegie Hall

Want to hear the back story to my time (two nights ago) with Keith and Kristyn Getty at Carnegie Hall? It started earlier in the month when the Gettys asked me to perform Joni and Ken in NYCwith them on December 20 at their “Irish Christmas” concert in NYC. “Sure,” I said, but then, over a week ago, I discovered a pressure sore! I was forced to bed for the week, thinking I’d have to cancel. But the Gettys started praying, as did Ken, and – hallelujah – I was declared ‘healed’ just in time to hop a plane to NYC early on December 19 (I reclined my seat on the cross-country flight).

So yes, it was awesome to be at Carnegie Hall and, yes, I was THRILLED to sing, and to share my Gospel readings, but the WONDERFUL part? That week I stayed in bed and worked on those readings: I wrote on Zechariah’s song, Mary’s song, the angel’s song, and finally the last reading, on Simeon’s song. Meditating on my messages about those 4 ‘songs’ from Scripture was the most JOYOUS experience; what an unexpected blessing, communing with Jesus from my bedJoni, Ken, Keith, and Kristen; the sweetest Christmas present God could have given me!

Last night, Ken and I arrived home, with my spirit still resonating from singing and sharing the stage with Keith and Kristyn at Carnegie Hall. Psalm 119:46 says, “I will speak of your statutes before kings” – and oh, the PRIVILEGE to give a clear gospel message from the world’s most famous stage! It was a moment I’ll never forget (as well as those tender moments with the Lord last week).
