Though He Slay Me

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and for years I have identified with Job where he says to God, “Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” Now, like most people who suffer, I first turned to the book of Job and immediately found someone with whom I could identify. My questions for God about suffering were not unlike Job’s. But when I studied this mysterious book, I saw that God did not answer Job’s question; instead, God answers Job by revealing His majesty and authority, and the trustworthiness of His character. And this convinced me to agree with Job, saying, “Though He slay me; though God’s plans and purposes remain shrouded in mystery, though I don’t get it, still I will place my hope in Him.” Hope assures us that one day God is gonna give us the key that will unlock sense out of what now seems to be senseless suffering. And I bet that you can identify with that!
