The Time to Protect Life

When my friend Stephanie Hubach has something to say, I listen! She is currently Senior Research Fellow on Disability Ministry at Covenant Seminary, and I was delighted to pen the foreword to her premier work on disability ministry in the church Same Lake, Different Book. Last week she contributed an excellent article on pro-life and pro-abortion stances for enCourage – her insights were so fascinating and unusual, I just had to share it with you.

The article “So. Much. More. Abortion and the Line of False Choice” is a timely piece in light of the controversial new Reproductive Health Act in New York which allows abortion for any reason up to the point of birth. And now, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, Maine, New Mexico, Virginia and Vermont all may see similar legislation in the near future (Bill H.57 in Vermont is currently in committee for discussion and voting, and has even fewer restrictions on abortion than the New York law). I’m dismayed that in such a short time, so many states seem to be in a rush to copy New York’s shocking law! Thankfully, though, there are also a number of states drafting bills to further restrict abortion.

This is an important year of legislation for protecting life. And I love how Stephanie’s article challenges us to scrutinize the way we engage others in this national debate. Give it a read, and then share it with your friends. We can all do well knowing what the choices are really about.
