The Prison That Sets You Free

“But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.”

Genesis 39:20b-21

I may not be in prison, but I understand a life sentence of confinement. It’s why I love Genesis 39 where Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison. While Joseph was there “the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.” You know, quadriplegia can feel like incarceration, for I carry around my own set of bolts and bars. Yet my “prison” is the thing God has used to set me free. And it’s why I love Joseph’s story. For the Lord was with him, the Lord showed him unceasing kindness, and he granted him favor. Friend, if you’re suffering with pain and confinement, yet endure it patiently, God will do for you what he did for Joseph. Look to your Deliverer, for he’ll always be with you, show you kindness and grant you favor. And it’s what makes your suffering a gift.
