The Care of Jesus

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and when it comes to extraordinary faith in Scripture, I think of the thief who was crucified next to Jesus … the one who said, “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Because that thief never had the benefit of seeing all of Jesus’ mighty miracles or the benefit of his teaching or instruction. That thief only saw Jesus in agony and weakness, deserted and despised.

There was no grand display of power there on Golgotha, no. But whatever this story says about the faith of a penitent thief, it says more about Jesus. Because if there was ever a time Jesus deserved to think about himself rather than someone else, don’t you think it was there on the cross?! Yet even during his most desperate hour, Jesus kept caring about others. And this same Savior would reach down through the centuries to care about you and me. And, friend, that is more wonderful still.
