Eliza HewittEliza had tried so hard. She studied a lot in school and was at the top of her class. She loved to learn! Once she graduated, she decided she would become a teacher. But then one day, something awful happened in her classroom. A student was being disrespectful and hit her in the back! Eliza was hurt so badly she had to be in bed for a very long time. It would have been very easy to be so mad at the student that she couldn’t think of anything else. Instead, Eliza started to write songs. The one people know the best is a song about heaven. When bad things happen to you, are you reminded to think about heaven? Next time you are hurting or disappointed, try singing the song Eliza wrote. It goes like this:

When We All Get to Heaven by Eliza E. Hewitt

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
sing His mercy and His grace;
in the mansions bright and blessed,
He’ll prepare for us a place.

Refrain:
When we all get to heaven,
what a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
we’ll sing and shout the victory.

While we walk the pilgrim pathway,
clouds will overspread the sky;
but when traveling days are over,
not a shadow, not a sigh. [Refrain]

Let us then be true and faithful,
trusting, serving every day;
just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay. [Refrain]

Onward to the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
soon the pearly gates will open;
we shall tread the streets of gold. [Refrain]
