Sing Through Suffering

How do I deal with the hardships of my wheelchair? I sing. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and when I’m struggling with the tough reality of my disability, I sing… Like the other day, when I was struggling to breathe, I made my lungs sing. Music helps me find the courage to go on and keep persevering. Ephesians 5 says, “Sing and make melody with your heart to the Lord.”

Just think of how the songs of Paul and Silas penetrated the hearts of the criminals in their jail cell. And look at all the people set free because of their worship. Songs of praise to God heal your heart, as well as the hearts of anyone who happens to be listening. Friends, there’s something powerful about watching someone sing when they should be despairing. So, keep singing through your suffering. Because the next time you’re struggling, you’ll see how quick your melodies turn into a song of victory.

Pressing On: How to Lean on Christ through Suffering

After more than 55 years living with quadriplegia and chronic pain, Joni Eareckson Tada knows what it means to “press on” through suffering. Joni encourages you to join her in living out Philippians 3:14: “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
