Sharon’s Calling

When Sharon Porterfield visited Thailand in April, 1985, she had no thoughts of becoming a missionary. But God put a call on her heart and she returned later that year to a Karen jungle village to teach English (due to ethnic cleansing in Myanmar, the Karen people were forced to evacuate their ancient homeland; they are now refugees living along the Thai-Burma border). Sharon may be 73, but she works tirelessly to give the Gospel to these tribal people, as well as distribute food, medicine, clothing, and agricultural materials. Disabled children and adults live in the refugee villages, so Sharon recently visited Joni and Friends to learn more about Wheels for the World – we can supply some wheelchairs immediately to Sharon, but please pray that her stateside sponsoring-church will organize a Wheels for the World Harvest outreach (Joni and Friends supplies the support, administration, and up to 200 wheelchairs, while the church raises up a team of physical therapists and mechanics :-). Could your church do a Wheels for the World Harvest Project to help distribute wheelchairs to the disabled people your missionaries are reaching? Learn more about Harvest Projects today! And please pray for Sharon and her amazing ministry!
