Sending “We Care” Packages

volunteers assembling packages at joni and friendsThe other morning as I was getting out of the elevator to head to my office, I found our library filled with volunteers. “What’s up?” I asked. They told me, “We’re putting together ‘We Care’ packages!” I was so proud to observe their work! You see, February can be a difficult time for special-needs families (the cold, snowy days make it difficult for wheelchair-users to get out of the house, and discouragement can settle like a fog). Well, Joni and Friends teams across the US sent us the names and addresses of 350 desperately weary families. And so our volunteers – even the young ones – are putting together ‘We Care’ packages to mail to each family. Each includes books, music CDs, gifts, and an audio message from Ken and me. It’s all mailed with love, as well as the sentiment of John 14:1, “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in [Jesus].” When it comes to the bleak midwinter, pray with us – may God use each package to revive these needy families!
