Remembering Our Brothers and Sisters

I see it all the time when I travel to developing nations – people with disabilities are relegated to the bottom rung of every ladder, even political and religious ladders.

Take this heartbreaking story I read from Persecution.org last week about a Christian man who has mental disabilities. He has been charged with blasphemy and it seems no thought was given to the limitations of his impairment; only a rigid judgmental bias from religious leaders. A mob attacked this man’s family, and he is currently in police custody. It’s a tragic story, and yet we shouldn’t be surprised.

Jesus said in John 15:18 that “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” Persecution is an everyday reality for many or our brothers and sisters in Christ, and people with disabilities – on the bottom rung in their community – experience the worst.

So join me in praying for the many people with disabilities who suffer greatly under religious persecution around the world.
