Our Daily Bread

Praying ChildDo you ever wonder why Jesus taught his disciples to pray the way he did? There’s the part that says “Give us this day our daily bread.” Doesn’t God already know we need it? Why are we supposed to ask for something He already knows we need? And if we really do need to ask for our daily bread, then why can’t we just treat it like we do grocery shopping and stock up for a week or a month at a time? Have you ever wondered that? Joni certainly has! But she’s also learned that God has a good reason for wanting us to pray for our daily bread. God knows we do best when we are reminded over and over and over again of His love and His help. When we pray every day for the things we need, we remember two things: 1) We really do need God! And 2) God loves to give us the things we need. Have you asked God to provide your daily needs today? If not, now is a great time! Ask God for today’s food, and the energy to get to school, and the concentration to listen to your parents, and the clothes to keep you warm. What else do you need today? Ask God for it!
