In Ephesians chapter 5, we are commanded to "Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord."

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and in Ephesians chapter 5, we are commanded (not suggested, but told to), "Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord." Like, what does that mean?  We are told to make music in our heart? Well, if it’s from the heart, you know it’s real, not fake; it’s honest. When we sing from the heart, we are worshipping honestly, in spirit and in truth.  And if it's not from the heart, your song is a clanging cymbal... it's just noise... a pretense, a put on.  God even says, these people praise me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Look, I know you don’t want that. So be honest with the Lord and with yourself. When you lift your voice in a song of praise, do it from your heart. Make your praise genuine. And you can start by asking the Lord what He wants to hear you sing…so today, please, please Him with a song of worship that you really, really believe.
