Communion Reflections

Communion cup and breadThis past Sunday our church took Communion, and after our pastor blessed and offered the bread, I was careful to slowly crunch the cracker. I wanted to hear it snap and feel my teeth grind then pulverize it. For me, it was a picture of Isaiah 52:14-15, “Just as there were many who were appalled at [Jesus] — his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness — so will he sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him.” I grieve at the way my sin so pulverized the body of Christ! May it never be that you and I cling to the sins which hung Jesus on the cross like meat on a hook. Today and always, join me in living out the simple command of I Peter 3:11, “Turn away from evil and do good.”
