Purpose in Trials

Hi I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I am convinced that our suffering has far more purpose than we realize. And when you know there’s a purpose behind your hardships, well, it can really boost your morale, right? Not long ago I was struggling with a lung infection – and with quadriplegia, that can be dangerous. I missed work, I had to postpone an important trip, cancel appointments. Then I read this little quote by Alan Redpath who wrote, “There is no circumstance, no trouble, no testing, that can ever touch me until, first of all, it has gone past God and past Christ, right through to me.  And if it has come that far, it has come with a great purpose.” When I read that, I felt so invigorated, strengthened, bolstered in my spirit. Because if that lung infection was given the go-ahead by my heavenly Father, and the thumbs up by the Lord Jesus before it reached me – wow, God’s purpose for it must be great!
