Needing A Helper
I’m a quadriplegic and that means I need help. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I love it when people volunteer as “my hands.” You know, reaching for things on the shelf, helping me with lunch, driving me to work in the morning, putting a coat on me or a sweater, holding books, you name it.
Now some people think that a “helper” is not very important. They think it’s grunge work and not very glorious. But I sure don’t think that way! I so appreciate the people who serve God by helping me. Look, even the Bible uses the word helper to speak of God! The psalmist says, “Behold, God is my helper.” And in the gospel of John, Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Helper.
So, people who help the disabled like me are in pretty good company! And if you would like to be a “helper,” visit joniandfriends.org. Because I am not the only disabled person who needs help!
