My Prince Charming

Joni and KenThe other day, the rigors of my quadriplegia got me down, and I was feeling blue and a little weary… and my husband Ken could see it. So, he put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Joni, remember how you loved the movie Cinderella? Remember her motto? In the face of every trial, Cinderella told herself, ‘Have courage and be kind.’ Well, you have the part down pretty good about being kind, but right now, you just need a little courage.” There he was, my Prince Charming, with just the right words to lift my spirits.

So together, we turned toward Jesus and asked Him for his courage. I’m always grateful when my husband shares wise words, even if they are drawn from Cinderella. Ken has the “well-instructed tongue” that Isaiah 50 talks about: “The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.” Friend, you too can give bolstering words. Our Sovereign Lord has them, so look to Him every day for His instruction and be that voice of encouragement to all those around you.
