JONI: Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.

KEN: And I’m Ken Tada.

JONI: And I’m so glad that you’re here in studio, sweetheart.

KEN: Me, too!

JONI: It was a great Christmas, and now we are here on the last week of the year.

KEN: Absolutely. And I’m so excited, because next Friday we get a chance to start reading through the Bible again.

JONI: Yep, this coming Friday, January 1st. We’ve been doing it together for get this – I looked it up – 15 years.

KEN: Yep, 15 years. Boy it’s just gone by fast.

JONI: Well, do you find it tiring that we do this every year?

KEN: No, because I think, Joni, you and I have discovered we learn new things every year.

JONI: Well, yeah, that’s true. We are learning new things. In fact, lately we’ve used many more commentaries. But, Ken, you have stumbled upon an unusual and rather fascinating way of learning more Bible details.

KEN:  I’ve gone onto YouTube, and I’ve discovered little clips of different places where we’ve talked about, and boy, it just makes it exciting. You know, it talks about the Sea of Galilee, but from a whole different perspective. And we learned that Jesus spent 60-70% of his life around the Sea of Galilee. You know, it’s amazing that we forget that Jesus walked everywhere.

JONI: Well, I loved it when you showed me that YouTube video of the path that Jesus probably traveled from Jericho to Jerusalem, going up that gorge; it’s really cool. I want to tell our listening friends – Ken has set up a computer and a monitor screen at the far end of our dining room table, and so after dinner, oh, he’s shown me videos of Ezekiel’s Temple and a virtual tour of Solomon’s Temple. And we saw where the Bronze Sea was and the brazen altar and the altar of incense. And it was kind of cool to see the way the seraphim were positioned.

KEN: Yep. And also, you know when we talked about the miracle at Cana, there’s still some discrepancy as to where it was. But there’s about three or four different locations. And just to be able to look at the different places. You know what’s exciting is you know that maybe Jesus wasn’t here…

JONI: Right at this spot.

KEN: Or he wasn’t there…

JONI: But pretty close.

KEN: But, you know, he was right in this area. So, you know, it just brings all of that to life.

JONI: It does bring it to life. And the point being, all these insights and discoveries happen just because we’ve taken a little time to do a little research.  And good Bible commentaries can never be replaced, but, Ken, I think it’s really cool that you have found some great stuff on YouTube. And, oh, I have learned that where Galilee is in relation to Samaria, the Decapolis, Judea. I’ve learned where the Negev Desert is and Edom. We even saw a video about the Via Maris. And Isaiah chapter 9 calls it, “the way of the sea.” I never realized that the Bible talked about this important trade route that ran along the north shore of the Sea of Galilee.  This trade route was how Jesus became a light to the Gentiles, especially all of those who were traveling along that ancient highway. These were people from other nations passing through Galilee who would have heard about Jesus.  And there’s a whole video on YouTube about the Via Maris or “The Way of the Sea.”

KEN: Oh, yeah, absolutely.

JONI: And it really has helped make our Bible reading so much more fascinating, getting all those details. And this Friday we’ll be starting in Genesis chapter 1 so, friend listening, visit joniradio.org to download our chronological reading schedule.
