John the Baptist

A scene of a desert cliffside with storm clouds overhead.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I know how difficult it is to watch someone die before their time. Perhaps a young child, or someone in his prime, a treasured loved-one, or a gifted friend who is valuable in the Kingdom. It’s why people were stymied when Jesus did nothing to save his cousin, John the Baptist. I mean Jesus did all those other miracles for other people, but did not rescue John. And yet right after he learns of John’s death, Jesus says of him in tears in Matthew chapter 11 that there was no one born of women who was greater than John the Baptist. Still, in spite of the high praise Jesus gives John, he did not give him deliverance. And the same may be true for us. We might not receive the miracle or the “yes” answer for a prayer for healing from a terminal diseaseBut it does not mean we are less in the eyes of Christ. Think about John the Baptist. Because it does mean there is an eternal purpose and God can be trusted.
