Jodie’s Story

It’s such a privilege being able to see Short Term Missionaries from Domestic Family Retreats take a leap of faith and share the gospel with families at our International Family Retreats! Jodie has been a faithful volunteer with Joni and Friends for 10 years, serving at both Spruce Lake Family Retreat and various other Family Retreats around the world. But this past year, God placed Jodie in a different role and allowed her to teach the salvation message, something she didn’t expect. Just a few weeks later at an International Family Retreat in Romania, Jodie teamed up with the local church and led a women’s group full of non-believers full with moms of children affected by disability who asked questions like, “Why does God allow suffering?”

One woman, whose son was cognitively disabled and deaf, asked the question, “Why does God allow me to live in a place where no one will play with my son?” God filled Jodie with wisdom to answer her questions and she set up a time when they could speak on a more individual basis. Jodie, along with a church leader from Romania, saw how God opened the door for this mom to get a better picture of Jesus during this time. And towards the end of the week, she gave her life to Jesus! She also told Jodie that she would like to begin attending the local church with her son, a place where their family would be embraced, and her son would have someone to play with! We’re so grateful to God for volunteers like Jodie who make the sacrifice to serve at Family Retreats, both domestically and internationally.
