I’m Donating My Birthday!

I’m about to cross a milestone, and I mean a big one! In October I will turn 70-years old (what?? Did I just write that?)! As I approach my birthday, the joy and amazement keeps rising in my heart; I can’t get over God’s goodness to me in sustaining me for 7 whole decades.

The words of Psalm 116:1-2 perfectly echo it: “I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.”

You’d never believe the many times I cried out to God, asking for his mercy; like, “God, how do I do quadriplegia? How can I live with chronic pain? God, help me!” And he heard my cry. He has helped me over and over again, and it’s why I can smile as I move forward into a new decade!

“As I approach my birthday, the joy and amazement keeps rising in my heart; I can’t get over God’s goodness to me in sustaining me for 7 whole decades.”

It’s a great blessing to be in this “land of the living” as that Psalm goes on to say.

And I know why God has me living – it’s all for the advancement of his Gospel (basically, that’s why any of us is alive). There have been seasons I’ve thought I might be close to the end of my days here on earth, but each time God has brought me back from the edge with a renewed sense of purpose to tell more people about Jesus. Especially families struggling with disability.

With that in mind, I want you to help me blow the lid off my special day by donating to my birthday – rather than giving presents, I’m asking all my friends to give the Gospel to the people I love dearly: kids and adults with disabilities and their families.

I’m asking 70 friends (or should I make it 700?!) to donate to the work of Joni and Friends. Will you help me reach my goal? And, hey, if your birthday is this Fall, why not ask your friends and family to do the same? Our Joni and Friends team has created an opportunity for you to “Pledge Your Birthday.” If you’ve got a birthday around the corner, consider donating your own birthday!

“I want you to help me blow the lid off my special day by donating to my birthday – rather than giving presents, I’m asking all my friends to give the Gospel to the people I love dearly…”
