Hymns

Hymn BookDo you like singing hymns? If you do, chances are that some of your favorite hymns were written by people who had disabilities. Maybe you know this one: “Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word. Tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard.” These words were written by Fanny Crosby who became blind as an infant. Charlotte Elliot, who was sick all the time, wrote “Just as I Am”. Maybe you know it. It goes like this: “Just as I am – without one plea, but that Thy blood was shed for me, and that Thou bidst me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come!” These hymns use words you might not know, but they are good examples of how God can use our hard experiences to encourage other people… sometimes hundreds of years later! Are you going through a hard time? Or is there something about God you are really thankful for today? Take a minute to write down a few words about it. If you have a diary, a scrapbook, or a special memories box, save what you’ve written. And who knows? Years from now, it may be exactly what you (or someone else) need to read!
