“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”1 Peter 2:21
When suffering hits hard, when all looks dark and you wonder why you “signed up” for the Christian life in the first place, it helps to remember your calling. When God called you into his family, he was not making an agreement with you. You were not entering into a contract. A calling is not a negotiation between you and the Lord. A calling is a death. First Peter 2 says, “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” And if you’re serious about your walk with Christ, those steps will always lead you down the blood-stained path to Calvary. In Christ, you grow by diminishing. You receive by giving. You gain by losing. Exactly what do you gain? More joy and delight and more peace and love than you can possibly imagine. So today, die to self, and live to Jesus!
Learn how God’s constant presence can bring peace, perspective, and healing—even in the most puzzling and chaotic circumstances of your life.
