Give a Lift

Love sure does provide a lift. Yes, spiritually, but even physically. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and when my husband Ken and I were in the People’s Republic of China to help deliver wheelchairs, we were able to visit the Great Wall of China. It’s one of the ancient wonders of the world stretching over 10,000 kilometers. When we arrived at the Great Wall, I sat at the base of this huge monolith snaking up the mountainside. Ken said, “Are you ready, Joni? ’Cause  I’m taking you up to the top of the wall.” “No way,” I said. But in the next instant, Ken had rallied a couple of strong guys and together they lifted me. They didn’t do it out of duty or guilt or because they felt sorry for the lady in the wheelchair – love and compassion was their motive. Like the old hymn goes, “Love lifted me. When nothing else could help, love lifted me.” Oh, the love of friends, as well as the love of the Lord Jesus. That’s right, he always gives a lift.
