Front Yard Delights

joni in her front yardOn many mornings, while Ken is getting ready to take me to the International Disability Center (IDC), I’ll wheel outside our front door to enjoy the fresh air, the quiet, doves cooing and dew on roses. This morning, I was stunned by the new, pink blossoms on our tree in the front yard. No matter how I’m feeling; no matter if my hip or back pain is biting, I find such joy in the fragrances and sounds of morning, all of it glowing with God’s glory. Simple pleasures from God certainly soften the hard edge of quadriplegia! Henri Nouwen wrote, ” The joy that Jesus offers his followers is his own joy which flows from his intimate communion with the Father. It is a joy that does not separate happy days from sad days, successful moments from moments of failure, experiences of honor from experiences of dishonor, suffering from resurrection. His joy is a divine gift that does not leave us during times of illness or persecution. It is present even when the world laughs or kills. It is truly ecstatic, always moving us away from the house of fear into the house of love, and always proclaiming that death no longer has the final say, though its noise remains loud. The joy of Jesus lifts up life to be celebrated.” Let’s celebrate this new month of August together!
