Friday, July 16th Update from Joni and Ken:

With every medical appointment Ken is making to prepare me for chemotherapy, I think of Jesus’ words in John 21:18-20, “…someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” …Then [Jesus] said, “Follow me!” And that’s exactly what I’m doing. Following the Savior further onto this battlefield against cancer. But, oh, how we’ve enjoyed every chance to witness to every secretary, nurse, clinician, and x-ray technician along the way! (Ken never forgets to bring Joni books to the hospital :-). It’s amazing; God is using your prayers to open hearts to receive the love of Christ (I think these hospital folks are a little amazed at our smiles and boldness about the Bible :-). As I’ve shared on this blog, it’s the only way I seem to be able to deal with this cancer… and I don’t mind saying, I think it’s the best way.

I am collecting all the little quotations, sayings, poems, and Scriptures friends like you have been posting on the blog. They are all a part of my journal during this journey. In fact, my good friend Gail McDonald sent me the following column today and it blessed me so much, I just had to pass it on…

Prayer of Stability
Brother Jesus,
you have reminded me of my need
to anchor my soul in a place of prayer,
a place where we can come together
to worship the Father.

Free me from my restless activity,
my slavery to the clock,
my habit of bobbing along on the open sea
when you have called me to be still.

When I consider how you consented to enclosure
in Mary’s womb,
in a narrow manger,
in a carpenter’s home
on the wooden cross,
in the bread of Eucharist,
my heart is moved to seek enclosure with you.
Amen. – Gloria Hutchinson

Note from Ken: Hi, I’m Joni’s husband and I want you to know that yesterday, Dr. James Dobson recorded an interview with Joni which will be aired on his program Family Talk this coming Monday, July 19. She shared some pretty personal moments, as did Dr. Dobson, and I think you’ll really enjoy tuning in. Again, that’s Family Talk on most Christian radio stations. And as my wife said earlier, thank you for praying. You’ll never know this side of heaven how much your prayers mean to us. Thank you. Sincerely, Ken Tada.
