For Better or Worse

It’s not often that you get to hear from my husband Ken. So, when he does have a chance to share his insight and perspective, I’m always thrilled to draw your attention to his words and wisdom (yes, this man has gleaned a lot of wisdom in our nearly 38 years of marriage).

Just recently, Ken was asked to contribute to a collection of resources for churches titled The Gospel in Hard Times. His minibook, For Better or Worse, speaks to other couples who are living with the day-in and day-out hardships of a marriage when there’s disability in the middle.

After more than 3 1/2 decades of marriage to me, a woman with quadriplegia… then dealing with my chronic pain and breast cancer, Ken Tada knows “that of which he speaks!” God has refined this remarkable man, ingraining on his heart many wonderful truths through caring for me over the years – and there are many other spousal caregivers who need to hear these same truths.

The minibooks are sold in a 5-pack because they are just the kind of thing to hand to someone who could use a word of encouragement. November is National Family Caregivers Month, and so it’s a perfect time to acknowledge the family caregivers you know. Assure them that you recognize their daily sacrifices… and you appreciate them! Or maybe you’d want to keep a copy for yourself and place the other four on a resource table in your church.

And hey! While you’re placing your order, consider adding some of the other resources from The Gospel in Hard Times collection. Because every church needs to know that there is rock-solid hope beyond suffering!

As they struggled with the progressive disease, friends faded into the background, caregiving became consuming, and Susan wrestled with loneliness, discouragement, and exhaustion. But God authored a transformation in their life, even as Dave’s health declined.
