Family Retreat Reflections

Today our last Joni and Friends’ Family Retreat of the season wraps up, and I am filled with joy as I read various reports from across the country. It makes me reflect on my own memories when Ken and I attended the Family Retreat at Lone Tree Ranch in New Mexico. We were way up in the mountains above the plateaus that New Mexico is famous for, the ideal place to meld with special-needs families. The team even put on a real “rodeo” for the families – the best part was watching so many giggling disabled kids and their siblings in a raucous scramble to herd chickens and goats into a pen before time was up.

Throughout the week, barriers crumbled between couples, single mothers found support for the first time, and hearts opened a-fresh to the Word of God. I can’t help but smile when I think of it. Do you have special memories of your time at Family Retreat? I’d love to read about them in the comments!
