An ‘Explosive’ Incident

joni with an Our recent trip took us through the Dulles Airport and a TSA checkpoint — usually my wheelchair and I are patted down with no problem. But the first TSA agent, after swiping my chair, told me it registered ‘danger.’ So her supervisor checked me out. Again, I failed the test. At that point they sent for the Explosives Specialist (pictured here), and when he tested my wheelchair on a different machine, it still failed. Then the ‘men in black’ with walkie-talkies and guns showed up! After 45 minutes, rigorous questioning, and much deliberation, they decided to let me pass — but they warned me to wipe my wheelchair down with alcohol before I flew anywhere again. So yesterday before we left for the Charlotte Airport? My wheelchair got a spit-shine wipe-down with Clorox wipes! And I passed with flying colors :-).
