University of Northwestern – Ukraine
May 15, 2021 - May 29, 2021
As a Joni and Friends Cause 4 Life Intern, you will receive training on a biblical view of disability and a theology of suffering with practical application on how to build disability ministries that serve people affected by disability.
1. Beyond Suffering
Beyond Suffering is the flagship curriculum of Joni and Friends, created to transform the way Christians view God’s Plan for disability and suffering. University of Northwestern nursing students receive biblical education on a theology of suffering, using Beyond Suffering as a core text, throughout the curriculum.
2. International Missions to Ukraine
In application of their new knowledge, student nurses serve people affected by disability through an International Family Retreat in Lutsk, Ukraine, connecting people with disabilities with the local church. Students will also observe and serve at the Agape Rehabilitation center, utilizing their skills and education to train and resource Ukrainian professionals.
Cause 4 Life interns will learn some Ukrainian language during their stay, start to understand the history of this country and the struggle for independence as they tour Kiev, Ukraine, including Freedom Square, an interactive blind museum and/or the Chernobyl Museum!
“I had so much fun in Ukraine! I met so many wonderful people, experienced new things, and learned so much about myself, my classmates, and what it means to be a nurse.” —Ceclia Das, UNW Nursing Student
3. Family Retreat
Students then serve as Short Term Missionaries at the Joni and Friends Castaway Club Family Retreat (August 2020) as a capstone to their internship. Family Retreat exposes the realities and needs of families affected by disability. Interns will have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
*Internship cost is ALL INCLUSIVE upon arrival at your internship location.
