As a Joni and Friends Cause 4 Life Intern, you will receive training on a biblical view of disability and a theology of suffering with practical application on how to build disability ministries that serve people affected by disability. To receive 3 credit hours at Dallas Baptist University, students must be accepted as a Cause 4 Life intern and complete:
- Beyond Suffering Beyond Suffering is the flagship curriculum of Joni and Friends, created to transform the way Christians view God’s Plan for disability and suffering. The course covers, but is not limited to: An Overview of Disability Ministry, The Theology of Suffering and Disability, The Church and Disability Ministry, and an Introduction to Bioethics.Participate in the Beyond Suffering 2019 spring semester online course through Joni and Friends, starting January 28, 2019.
- Participate in a Joni and Friends Family Retreat Joni and Friends Family Retreat is the second half of the internship where interns will serve families affected by disability for a week. Family Retreat exposes the realities and needs of families affected by disability. Interns will have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
*Students may participate in any Family Retreat for the Summer of 2019.
Three hours of college credit from DBU can be applied towards an undergraduate degree, an advanced certificate in Special Needs Ministry, or graduate degree at DBU. Dallas Baptist University offers a concentration in Special Needs Ministry in both the Master of Arts in Children’s Ministry and Master of Arts in Family Ministry. In addition, DBU offers an Advanced Certificate in Special Needs Ministry.
