Dave and Carol’s Bountiful Blessings

Dave and Carol Kaufman were – quite literally – called to collect wheelchairs for Wheels for the World. One day, as they were listening to a local Christian radio station, Joni and Friends came on the air asking for a volunteer with a box truck to help pick up local wheelchair donations.

They were immediately struck by the timing of this as they had just purchased a box truck several weeks prior. Dave and Carol couldn’t help but say, “yes…we can DO this!”

And thus began a journey of wheelchair collection that these two never expected. Since that day they said yes, Dave has driven that box truck more than 20,000 miles picking up wheelchairs!

Dave and Carol’s passion for Wheels for the World began to spill over to their friends and family, and it wasn’t long before they had a dedicated Chair Corps team collecting wheelchairs alongside them, including their children and grandchildren! With so many helping hands, wheelchair collection continued to grow. It grew so much that after being forced to move from several donated storage spaces in a row, Dave decided enough was enough.

The only solution he could see was to…buy a warehouse! Imagine this bountiful blessing for their Chair Corps team and Wheels for the World! Dave and Carol can easily store more than 400 wheelchairs at a time, and it’s a good thing too… Dave and Carol also host one of the most successful wheelchair drives in the country every August. With the support of a local Christian radio station and the rest of their team, this drive brings in about 200 wheelchairs every year! You can bet this warehouse is put to good use.

When Dave and Carol responded to Joni and Friends so many years ago, they stepped out in faith…and God has been faithful and met them every step of the way! And we can honestly say that thousands of people affected by disability have been given the gift of mobility and the message of Jesus because they said “YES” to the Lord’s call!

And now, Dave and Carol want to encourage you to step out in faith when God moves you to help…even if it involves a box truck and wheelchairs!

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide.”
