Bowing Our Knees

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I grew up in a church where we took the Lord’s Supper up front while kneeling at the Communion railing. When our knees are bowed, it accurately reflects the way our hearts should bow before the Lord Jesus. When we come to the Lord’s table, we divest ourselves of all our abilities and resources… and we admit that we’re nothing. Humility is the best position to be in to receive the abundant grace that God gives at the communion table. For me, kneeling was long ago and I can no longer drop to my knees literally; I’m paralyzed. And if you have arthritis or bad legs, you may not be able to kneel before the Lord either…but we can bow our hearts; we can make our souls drop to their knees to reflect submission and to show humility before our Savior.

So, friend, whether you’re breaking bread, reading the Word, praying with a friend, or going before the Lord on your own, delight in kneeling before your awesome God and maker….
