A Visit with Kathy

Kathy and Joni at King Gillette RanchRemember during my battle against cancer when my sister Kathy flew out from Maryland to help me? During that time, we bonded as never before. And now, Kathy is out for another visit, helping me while Ken goes fly fishing this week — we’ve cleaned out closets, read the Bible together, shopped for staples, organized bookcases, run errands and today, we visited the King Gillette Ranch not far from Joni and Friends (it’s part of the Santa Monica Mountains recreation area). We wandered throughout the property, enjoying the big, beautiful coastal oak trees surrounding the ranch house. The wind in the trees and the smell of new-mown hay in the fields reminded us of days growing up on the farm in Maryland. Deborah Moggach once wrote, “You keep your past by having sisters. As you get older, they’re the only ones who don’t get bored if you talk about your memories.” Ken returns from fishing in a couple of days and I’ll bid Kathy goodbye — but we’ve made more than a few more great memories to reflect on when she visits again!
