Tuesday, Sept. 14th Update from Joni:

A few things have happened since Ken and I posted our video last week (loved reading your comments) – I had been experiencing some congestion and didn’t think much of it until I had a chest x-ray last Thursday. Before we even got home from the lab, my doctor called: I had pneumonia (no, not from the chemo drugs, but an infection). He immediately put me on a powerful antibiotic and, today, there’s hardly a cough or trace of congestion. I’m laying low, though, and not taking chances. Obviously, my body’s defenses are pretty weak, so it’s ‘no hugs,’ Clorox wipes on phones and doorknobs, and lots of rest.

Something else: to be on the safe side, my third round of chemo has been pushed back a week, but that’s okay. Ken and I are ‘battening down the hatches’ and sticking close to the Lord (the name of the Lord is a strong tower, right? And the righteous run into it and they are safe)! Plus II Corinthians 4:8-10 has bolstered us, for we definitely feel “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair… struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” The life of Jesus; that is, His grace, joy, peace, endurance, patience and more are being “revealed” – and the cancer is just a piece of black velvet against which God’s diamond-like grace shows up all the brighter. What a privilege; what an honor!

So please join us in praying that we can beat back this pneumonia… that my lungs won’t suffer harm… that no other infection will invade my body… and that I’ll be able to keep the date for my next treatment. Also, join us in praying for the Joni and Friends’ Warrior Getaway being held in conjunction with Walter Reed Medical Center for wounded American servicemen injured in Iraq and Afghanistan (and their families)… also for our Wheels for the World team in Ukraine right now… and for the Wheels teams preparing to head out to India, Cuba and Haiti. Ask God to open hardened hearts to His Gospel and rescue people with disabilities from the kingdom of darkness. For we want everyone who feels “struck down” to know that there’s hope and help in Jesus!
