Monday, December 13th Update from Joni:

Ken Tada wearing a fishing vest.Today is my husband’s birthday – he’s 64, going strong, and I’m so glad he celebrated out of doors today. He and a few friends took the dogs and went bird hunting up in the high desert. He called a few minutes ago: “Find some good recipes for pheasant :-)!” Actually, I am grateful Ken got away today. He’s been doing double-duty for months now, and this was just the birthday present he needed.
 
While he was gone, I was at the International Disability Center, catching up. While reviewing the rough cut of an upcoming Joni and Friends’ TV episode on our recent Wheels for the World trip to the Dominican Republic, I became moved to the point of tears. Watching these dear mothers come trudging into the distribution center carrying their disabled children on their backs, well… it just made me so grateful I’m in this ministry. What a reward I enjoy in seeing the Gospel go forth and hurting people reached. It gives such “meaning” to my hardships! I’m convinced, though, that in heaven the highest accolades will go to godly people who suffered and yet received no “reward” on earth. May the Lord take the highest delight in those mothers in the DR who don’t dwell on their plight, but rather care for those around them who are even more in need. These are the ones who will receive great reward. And I pray they’ll keep persevering!
 
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, and comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcomings.” Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.
 
Success isn’t the key. Faithfulness is. May you be faithful to Him until you hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
