My Friendship with Vicky

Whenever I’m having a tough day in my wheelchair and need to be reminded of an eternal perspective, I give my friend Vicky Olivas a call. In 1976, Vicky suffered a high-level spinal cord injury when she was shot during an attempted rape. Her Christlike attitude and love of prayer is a constant inspiration to me. When life’s difficulties seem overwhelming, Vicky will often say, “One day the Lord will make it all plain to us. In the meantime, we trust Him. And we pray just like I pray for that man who attacked me.”

You can read her story in my new book “Life in the Balance” (Regal Books) which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2010.
