If We Only Knew

Joni in her Wheelchair

I’ve been a little nostalgic lately, given that 2017 is the 35th year I’ve been doing Joni and Friends radio. And as I prepare for this Thursday’s recording session, I keep reflecting on when I was 20 years old and still adjusting to a life of quadriplegia. Had you told me then, I would one day produce over 9,000 radio programs spanning 3 ½ decades, I would have exclaimed, “Whaat?!” But that’s exactly what God planned. We never really know what’s around the corner, do we?! Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God knows the plans He has for us. They are good plans, custom designed for you, to give you a future and a hope.

When I was sitting on the front patio of our farm house in my early 20s, facing a life without use of my arms and legs, I hadn’t a clue of how good God’s plan was for me. But when I consider all that He has done – including encouraging countless people through radio, some on the brink of utter despair – well, His plan was much more than I could have asked or imagined. So, whatever you are facing today, take heart: God has a good and hopeful plan for you. And if you would, please pray for me on Thursday. I need God to fill my quadriplegic lungs with air so those messages of hope will reach even more hurting people!
