A Fascinating Fact from our Bible Reading

Ken and Joni reading through the BibleAs you may know, Ken and I are reading through the Bible in a year – we’re currently in First Chronicles. For me, this book has always been challenging; it’s an endless litany of lineages, each with names that require a linguistics degree to pronounce. But in the third chapter, we stumbled across something I hadn’t noticed before. First Chronicles 3:4-6 says, “David reigned in Jerusalem thirty-three years, and these were the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon. These four were by Bathsheba daughter of Ammiel.” When I spotted the name of Nathan, it struck me: David and Bathsheba named their second born after the very prophet who nailed David for his sin of adultery and murder. To me, it spoke volumes about the depth of David’s repentance and humility. Little wonder he was known as a man after God’s heart… and, oh, that we would be the same! If you are reading through the Bible with us, be encouraged: we are a third of the way through, friend!
