God’s Idea of “Good”

When I was a teenager, I savored this verse. The way I looked at it, all I had to do was "walk uprightly:" turn in my homework, finish my chores, argue less with my sisters, go to church, say my prayers… and God would take care of the rest. Good grades, a nice boyfriend, and an easy ride...

This month marks the 36th Anniversary of Joni and Friends radio! I cannot believe it’s been 36 years since the launch of my 4-minute radio program. Back in late 1981, I had been in bed for several weeks trying to heal up a stubborn pressure sore. As you can imagine, after being cooped up in my bedroom for that long, I was starting to feel discouraged. That’s when Al and Jon — top executives from Ambassador Advertising Agency — visited my home. After reading my autobiography and watching the Joni movie, Al and Jon thought I had a message that could inspire radio listeners. “Wait a second… You want me to do what?!” I mean, here I was, lying in my bed, feeling that my life didn’t go beyond the four walls of my room — and these two men wanted me to be on the radio, encouraging others? At first, I...

Ok, I have to brag for a bit … my husband, Ken, is such a great evangelizer! Whenever we stop for dinner at a restaurant or are boarding a flight, Ken always carries a “Joni’s Story” tract on hand to give to the waiter or flight attendant — it’s a little Gospel tract that shares how Jesus used my...

At the age of nine, Hope Peacock went in for a routine surgery to remove her tonsils. But only two days later, Hope went into cardiac arrest, suffering a severe brain injury that left doctors thinking she would never again speak, see, walk, or eat on her own. It was a harrowing experience for the...

When you read the story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50, you discover a lot of awful things happened to him: jealousy from his brothers led to his kidnapping and being sold as a slave. Even when it finally looked like Joseph’s life had ‘turned the page’ with his promotion to supervisor of Potiphar’s...

Happy Administrative Professionals Day! I am so thankful for Lisa Miehl, my executive assistant, and Christie Willis, my secretary. These two ladies keep me on track — Lisa, overseeing all of my speaking engagements and appointments, and Christie serving as my ‘hands’ at the keyboard. All so that...

Ken and I love cheering on any and every effort to reach young people with disabilities for Christ. We do that through Joni and Friends, but we also serve on the advisory board of Young Life Capernaum. It’s all about holding Young Life Club by pairing typical high school kids as "buddies"...

It’s Autism Awareness Month — a time to shed light on the challenges and the blessings of autism. Like this recent poster I saw of “The Positives of Autism.” Perhaps some people may be wondering how autism can be a “good” thing. But while children and adults with autism may struggle with...

A Good Quality of Life

When you think of “quality of life,” what comes to mind? For some, a good quality of life means higher pay, good health, or a stable home. But hardly ever does someone associate a “good” quality of life with disability. Having to be bathed, dressed, and toileted every day? For most people, having a...

Recently, Crossway sent me their new Super Giant Print Bible in the English Standard Version (ESV) — and boy, was I impressed! In our “Through the Bible in a Year” reading plan, Ken and I are currently using the NIV Giant Print Bible — I’ve always appreciated the very large font. So, I decided to...
