Assisted Suicide in Canada

Assisted SuicideCanada now has an assisted-suicide law – but not without some controversy. And that controversy centers on people with disabilities. On June 17, The Canadian Press couldn’t help but put its liberal slant on the issue when it wrote “Canadians suffering intolerably from non-terminal medical conditions [a.k.a. disabling conditions] can no longer seek medical assistance to end their lives, thanks to a restrictive new federal law enacted Friday shortly after appointed senators bowed to the will of the elected government.”

The Senate had amended the bill to include those who are not terminally ill – that is, who are disabled – but the Commons rejected the change. I thank God for those brave members of Parliament who voted against extending assisted suicide to disabled people – join me in praying it stays that way!
