A Man Called Pain

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Did you know that in the Bible, there’s a man whose name actually translates as “pain?” It’s Jabez in first Chronicles chapter 4. Jabez means “pain” in Hebrew. But this man did not let his name get him down. In fact, it says that he was more honorable than all his brothers. Jabez cried out to God, and the Lord blessed him and granted his request to keep him from harm. As a disabled person, now, I can understand a little of the painful stigma that Jabez faced. But I’m the sort who refuses to let the pain of a disability get me down – like Jabez, my disability forces me to cry out to God, and it draws me closer to him.

So, if there’s something you wish could change, can you, like Jabez, turn it around for good?  You’ll be blessed far beyond your painful problems. And you can learn how to do it through our resources at joniandfriends.org.
