A Calf’s Joy

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And when I was growing up on a Maryland farm, I joined the 4-H club. And one of my projects was to raise a calf, which I loved doing. There’s nothing cuter than watching a calf at play; they’re so happy, they can’t jump and kick their heels up high enough. It’s like watching sheer joy, spilling over in abundance. Well, that image of that little calf at play is exactly what the prophet is trying to convey in Malachi chapter 4 when he describes heaven. He speaks of that glorious Day when God’s people will finally be set free of sorrow, pain, darkness, death. Malachi tells us that we will “go out and skip like calves released from the stall.“ Oh, friend, God is telling you that your eternal destiny is going to be so wonderful that you won’t be able to kick your heels up high enough for all the joy. So, today, let that joy, that heavenly vision of being with Christ, overflow your heart.
