Seating Specialist
The Seating Specialist (typically a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist) is experienced with assessment, seating techniques and requirements. Specifically, a Seating Specialist has the experience to identify the orthopedic, neurological and skin needs of the recipient and determine the proper piece of equipment to meet the need and experience with cutting foam padding to assist in seating. The Seating Specialist teaches the recipient and family how to use the equipment (wheelchair), and maintain it.

Seating Specialist Assistant
The Seating Specialist Assistant is often a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist who has worked with the physically impaired but not specifically with seating techniques or assessment. The assistant has knowledge of seating but little experience however is willing to assist and learn from the Seating Specialist.

Speaker/Teacher
Joni and Friends’ Wheels for the World has a goal to bring the Gospel of Christ to those affected by disability, to create awareness, educate and train in disability ministry. Those who sign up as Speaker/Teacher are able to impart the dual message of the Gospel and Disability Ministry to a variety of groups. They have the ability to share their testimony and they have an understanding of God’s view of the Disabled. They create disability awareness and teach disability ministry with Nationals in a cross-cultural context.

Speaker/Teacher Assistant
Those who apply for the Speaker/Teacher must first and foremost be willing to serve. Wheels for the World asks that your first outreach be one in which you experience as a Speaker/Teacher Assistant working with a Speaker/Teacher. In this way you get to know our message our goals and us. There is much to be said for experiencing an Outreach in a service role - and this is our request. Then, when you sign up for a second outreach in the role of Speaker/Teacher, we ask you to connect with one of our experienced Speakers so your presentation is consistent with our guidelines.

Translator
Those who identify their skill as being that of Translator are fluent in the language of the country. A translator must be able to take the words as well as the cultural meanings, subtleties and transform them into an understandable whole.

Mechanic
Our Mechanics are those who - with skill and creativity (often working with less than ideal supplies) - can maneuver the nuts and bolts of the wheelchair to make it fit the requirements of the Seating Specialist and the identified needs of the recipient. Mechanics are those who are - truly - mechanically inclined, with the ability to take things apart and build to order.

Mechanic Assistant
Those who enjoy tinkering and have the desire to learn and follow direction comprise our Mechanic Assistants. These individuals watch, ask, learn and then do. Is great mechanical skill required? No. But if you have a knack with pliers or a wrench - and you want to learn, are able to understand the goal and follow through with the task - then you are qualified to be a Mechanic Assistant.

Administrative/General Support
Those who participate with Wheels for the World in the role of Administrative/General Support will be asked to serve in a variety of roles identified by the team leader or country liaison to best meet the needs of the team.  This may include clerical needs and maintaining documentation or anything that might assist the seating process. Those who best fit this role have qualities of flexibility and organization, and are gifted in service and helps ministry.

Photographer
Wheels for the World seeks to capture the experience of the Outreach - the joy of the recipient meeting Christ, the impact on family and friends and the impact on the one receiving the wheelchair. Wheels for the World and Joni and Friends Media Department seeks volunteer professional photographers and/or advanced amateur photographers. Your Portfolio must be submitted with your Application.

Gate Keeper
This role is chosen by the Team Leader and the indivuidal chosen reports directly to the Team Leader.  They are responsible for ensuring the recipients are fitted in an orderly, timely, and efficient manner.  The Gate Keeper will work with sponsoring nationals to ensure good communication and working relationships as recipients go from station to station. They will also work with the Team Leader to problem solve any slow moving areas or equipment/material needs.  They will help oversee the comfort of the recipients and their families.
