Lord Jesus’ death on a cross to save us from sin reveals God’s strong right arm in creation and salvation.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada with a message I want you to tell others.
Because think on this: God created the world (okay, mountains, oceans, planets, animals, and even humans). He created everything that we can see by the work of His fingers. Psalm 8, verses 3 and 4 put it this way: “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” God used His hands, His fingers to mold mountain ranges and carve out rivers and ladle out seas. God's creation is not only God's handiwork, but it’s God's finger-work. When God created the earth — the whole universe — He did it with His fingers.
Now keep that thought and consider this: When the Bible talks about what it took to save us, to redeem us, it describes God doing so by His strong arm. His strong right arm of salvation. No doubt about it, when it came to redeeming sinful people, it was not the finger work of God. It involved much more than that. It took the very life of God, the life of His Son Jesus. It was the blood, sweat and tears of Calvary that bent the strong arm of God's salvation. It may have been an easy effort to create the world, but it was no easy effort for Jesus to go to the cross. Just think about what happened at the Garden of Gethsemane – how Jesus shuddered and trembled and wept, knowing that the carnage of the cross was just hours away. Nothing light about that! So no wonder Psalm 118, verse 15 says, “Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly. The strong right arm of the Lord has done glorious things!” And can you believe it? We, as sons and daughters of God, are the glorious result of the work of God's arm.
And oh, that touches me deeply; I hope you, too. Just thinking about what it cost God to rescue us out of darkness and despair, out of hell and every hardship, well, it makes me want to live, as never before, a life worthy of the Gospel. So today, I want you to join me in casting off every sin that entangles, every bad habit that hinders us, every hidden private thing we try to cover up. Why? Because those things cost God so much! How dare we cling to the very things that nailed our Savior to the cross. Join me in thanking God today for His strong arm of salvation. And if you’d like to share this insight with a friend, I’ve posted the video of it on my radio page at joniandfriends.org/radio. It’s the kind of message I share every week in videos that I post on Joni’s Corner at joniandfriends.org. There’s so much to say about all that Jesus has done for us, and I share a new, fresh message every week in a video. It’s right there for you on Joni’s Corner, so share it with your Facebook friends if it blesses you, and come by every week to hear a fresh insight, a new story on Joni’s Corner.
And finally, just take a moment to think – I mean, really think – about what your salvation means in the grand scheme of things. Like God's creation, like all the beautiful things in this world, the forests, mountains and the great rivers. Think of all the glorious vistas, like Half Dome in Yosemite, and the vast expanse of galaxies. All of it is the finger-work of God. And it pales in comparison to the strong right arm that God flexed at Mt. Calvary in order to win you to His side of His Son. How should we then live? Let’s live in a manner that is truly worthy of all that the Gospel means.
